passion for children and their wellbeing, this is the career for you.
The process to become a foster parent
Phase 1 - Initial Meeting - Pam, our Program Manager will be scheduled to meet
with you and your family to present our Program and discuss the possibility of providing
relief and/or fostering. She will bring a package to get you started through the next
steps.
***RockHaven requires a letter of reference if you are transferring from another agency
or from a CAS. We are unable to move forward until we receive this letter.***

Phase 2 - Paperwork - All paperwork must be completed and sent to the office for
review. Once all paperwork has been received, your file will be reviewed and signed for
completion.

Phase 3 - Physical Check - Pam, our Program Manager will visit your home and
conduct a physical check which will help you safeguard your home. This phase usually
takes a minimum of 2 visits to your home. The first visit will help you identify if changes
in your home need to take place. Once you have completed these changes, if any, Pam
will visit again for a follow-up and ensure the changes meet Ministry standards. This
process will continue until all requirements are met.

Phase 4 - Orientation - You will attend 20 hours of orientation. All 20 hours must be
completed before moving on. Orientation will introduce you to RockHaven, the Policies,
Procedures, completing paperwork and the many different situations you may encounter
as a relief and/or foster parent.

Phase 5 - Home Study - A third party assessor will conduct a home study
assessment to help identify your strengths and explore challenges as you begin
providing relief and/or fostering. The assessor with meet with you at your home to
conduct family and individual meetings and may follow-up with phone calls. Once this is
completed it is then forwarded to RockHaven for review.

Phase 6 - Review - RockHaven will now make a decision based on the above
Phases as a whole. Once a decision is made you will receive a phone call and a letter
will be sent in the mail.

Congratulations! You are now ready to received a child/youth!

Note: This process will take a minimum of 2 months. Factors which may extend the
process would be how long it takes to compile the paperwork required and if changes
need to be made in the home after the initial physical check.
